Leaving Australia

Time certainly does fly when you are having fun!  For those of you who don’t have facebook accounts and haven’t been seeing all the photos that my friend Jen and I have been putting up, I am sorry for the long delay in writing.  While I’ve been holidaying/vacationing in Australia I took a little break from writing on the blog.  We had very long and full days of adventure and it was all I could do to get photos uploaded to facebook.  I have spent the last couple of days relaxing finally because we needed a break, but our time in Australia has been amazing!  We spent about 4 days in Sydney and 5 in Cains/Palm Cove area.  We had some sort of adventure just about every day.  For a week straight there was no sleeping in or break really it was just go, go, go.  In Sydney we were able to meet up with a volunteer I had met in the Philippines and hang out for an evening which was nice.  Then when we got here to Palm Cove, we were able to meet up with a second volunteer I had met while in the Philippines.  She was nice enough to drive us in to town so we could get some grocery supplies for our time here in Palm Cove.  The Lord works in mysterious ways!  How cool that I spent the last 3 months in the Philippines volunteering and He made connections that would be beneficial while we were vacationing!  He is an awesome God for sure!  If I hadn’t arrived when I did I wouldn’t have met Katheryn who is currently renting a place here in Palm Cove and if I hadn’t stayed until the end I wouldn’t have met David who was also doing some travel in Australia after his volunteer work before returning to England!  Indeed God’s timing was just right! 🙂  At any rate, I hope you can take a peek at the many photos on facebook if you haven’t already!  There are indeed many, but you will get a good taste of the many things we saw and got to do.  Some pictures are courtesy of Jen from early in the trip and then I finally remembered to bring my camera later in the trip.  Make sure you enjoy them all!

We get picked up and taken to the airport in just under 3 hours now.  Jen is taking a last minute rest and I decided I should update my blog before the next long journey begins.  I do have a few other things to wrap up before we get going and maybe will grab a quick rest, but not sure, depends how quickly I get the other things done.  We are all packed up so just have to be sure we get down to meet our pickup on time.  Our plane leaves from Cairns airport at 5:30 am.  I will include the brief summary of my travels below for you all to pray for safe travels because this one is a 5 day journey.

Thursday, January 29,

5:30 am our time leave Cairns and fly to Brisbane, Australia arriving at 7:40 am our time.  This flight is 2 hours 10 min.  We have about a 4 hour layover.

11:30 am our time leave Brisbane, Australia and fly to Los Angelos, California  arriving at 6:30 am California time.  This flight is 13 hours long, but we gain a day coming back over the international date line also so we look like it only took us an hour to get back to the US from Australia.

Jen and I part ways here – she will continue on back to the East Coast.  I stick around for about 36 hours in a hotel before continuing on down to South America.

On Friday, January 30,

7:10 pm California time I leave to fly to Lima, Peru arriving at 6:45 am on Saturday, January 31.  This is a 8 hour 35 min flight.  I have just under 2 hour layover.

On Saturday, January 31,

8:35 am Lima time I leave to fly to Santiago, Chile arriving at 2:05 pm.  This is a 3 and 1/2 hour flight.  I have about a 7 hour layover.

9:15 pm Santiago time leave to fly to Cordoba, Argentina arriving at 10:45 pm.  This is a 1 and 1/2 hour flight.

Upon arrival in Cordoba, I will need to get my bags, get through customs & security, flag down a cab and get to the hostel where I will be staying for the evening.  The following day Sunday, February 1, I should be picked up around midday and driven about an hour outside of the city to a smaller city called La Falda where I will be staying for my first 3 weeks during my 3 months of volunteer work in Argentina.  I will do my best to write at least a short blog post as soon as possible once I have arrived in La Falda and figured out internet service.  I anticipate resuming about once a week posts from then on as long as possible.  I will be in a much closer time frame to those back in the USA at that time also.  Right now in Australia I am about 15 or 16 hours away from those back in the USA.

Please also keep me lifted as I get used to a unique version of Spanish hopefully very quickly because by my fourth week my job requires I use only Spanish while working and there are some variations on pronunciation so even the vocabulary I already have will not be completely correct.  Thank you in advance for those prayers. 🙂  You will hear from me again fairly soon!  If I have time during any of my layovers I will try to write a post about my last few days and my exit from the Philippines as well since there were quite a few stories from those days.  😉
